In this series, I would like to address some of the currenttrends seen in the Western Dressage arena from the judge’spoint of view. Why is Western Dressage intimidating forwestern riders? This is a good question, and there are many reasons that Western riders think that Western Dressage is too difficult and is intimidating. Let me give you several reasons that should encourage western riders to practice Western Dressage!1. Western Dressage will only help you become a better riderthan you already are! There are skills and levels that will helpyou have a better balance on your horse.2. There are skills that will help you understand your horse moreand communicate more desirably with the horse to accept your aids.3. There will be so much at each level for you to learn on howto develop your horse to become stronger, more athletic andmore agile. With that, you will be able to perform more of a degree of difficulty in transitions, figures\\ and maneuvers!For these reasons, not only will Western Dressage build aclearer understanding of yourself as a correct rider, but it willalso build a clearer understanding of your horse, thus, buildingharmony with your horse. We want that with our horses in allwestern disciplines; however, Western Dressage will give you aclearer understanding of what to do and how to achieve excellent willing responses in performance with your horse.
