Horses may be shown ineither a snaffle bit or a hackamore while being judged in threechallenging events: herd work (cutting), reined work (reining),and fence (cow) work. They%u2019ll first compete in a preliminaryround of competition to determine who will return for the cleanslate finals. The NRCHA Derby features nine divisions to suitall levels, from million-dollar riders in the Open to entry-levelcompetitors in the Limited Non Pro and Boxing and every levelof competitor in between.Last year, Jordan Williams claimed his first premier event winat the Kimes Ranch Derby with Tazzy Es Savvy for ownersBonds Ranch.%u201cWhen I completed this run [at the Derby], I knew it was agood one,%u201d he said. %u201cI didn%u2019t care if I won or not in the moment- just that I showcased that mare on the big stage.%u201dThey won the Open and the Intermediate Open divisions witha 663.5 (H: 216.5/R: 222/C: 225).
