Both the racehorse, which becomes unmanageable when hearing sounds of a large crowd of people, or the show horse, who isterrified of the sound of clippers, suffer from noise phobias, orunreasonable fears. These noise phobias can be helped by gradually conditioningthe horse to the sound. Clipper fear can be significantly reducedby having a running set of clippers placed outside horses’ stallseach time they are fed. The horse which spooks at the sounds ofa large crowd of people may be helped by playing a tape of thosesounds at low volume in the barn while he’s relaxed and quiet, gradually increasing the volume as he becomes accustomed tothe noise. Pay close attention when your horse spooks “unnecessarily”at a particular sound. With a little thought, you may be able toprevent it next time. Most horses respond to particular sounds in specific ways. The soothing tones of Mozart played in the barn may help toquiet a nervous horse, while loud rock ‘n roll might get the wholebarn stirred up. Some horsemen insist that their horses preferparticular types of music. Try playing different tunes in yourbarn, and see if there are any changes in your horse’s attitude! o!! ! ! ! ! !!!! ! ! ! !! !! !!! ! ! ! %u0014fi %u0016%u000f fi%u000f %u0019&\t%u0012%u0011%u0017$*%u0010&#%u000f %u000e \'&&%$#\! ! ! ! ! ! fi ffffl ffi!!! ! ! ! !! !! !!! ! ! ! %u0019%u0019ffl $%u000b fi fi \\t%u000f &\b fi%u000f$%u0016 %u0019$\b%u000f%u0007%%u000f &\f %u000b&ff%u000f %u000f&%u0019%u000f %u0019&&% fi!! ! ! ! ! ! ffi'fl %u001a#$ff %u0019 %u0018%u0017fi%u0016$fi${body.pageText}#%u0015 %u0014#%u0013!!! ! ! ! !! !! !!! ! ! !%u0005%u0005%u0005*%u0004%u0003%u0005*%u0001%u0003ffi'fl #$ff %u0019#%u0017fi%u0016$fi${body.pageText}#)%u0013&ff!! ! ! ! ! !!!! ! ! ! !! !! !!! ! ! !ffHope Is Not a Plan.
