Five years after she founded Wildhorse,she was contacted by the grandson of theNichols/Sawyer family and told Kim thathe felt Wildhorse was a homage to Clabber and Kim agreed that she felt he somehow had a hand/hoof in it.For years, Kim balanced working hercorporate job at Intel, with late nights andearly mornings caring for horses no oneelse wanted. In 2002, she walked awayfrom corporate life to devote herself fullyto the rescue. There were so many inneed, and they needed so much! Lovewas the key for Kim and her family. Theyeducated themselves a lot from the timethey started and learned the gentle ParelliNatural Horsemanship way of training tohelp the horses. They also forged a strongrelationship with Arizona Equine Veterinary Clinic, located close by in Gilbert andwhich was needed often.What followed were years of heartbreak and hope: They rescued orphanedwild babies and injured ones; horses onNative American lands, horses saved fromauctions where %u201cmeat buyers%u201d waited inthe shadows, and domestic horses whosefamilies could no longer care for them. In 2014, Kim, along with other rescues,went to an auction and saved 22 burrosfrom slaughter. In 2018, she stepped in torescue an entire band of 22 wild horses.She then worked with other rescues thattook some of the horses. Today, the band%u2019sproud stallion, Justified, now 30 years old,still roams the ranch with many of hisfamily members - living proof that lovewins!Rescue work is not for the faint of heart.Kim and her team have sat through sleepless nights with the sick and traumatized.They have felt the deep soul-crushingweight of some who could not be saved.And yet, every day, they continue, guidedby the simple belief that every horse deserves to be seen, valued and loved. Today, 31 years later, Wildhorse hasgrown into something beautiful and powerful.
