They havealso bought 100 acres in Ashfork, near Prescott and need helpgetting up and running.In addition to all the rescue work, Kim has fought on CapitolHill to get laws changed to protect horses from going to slaughter. Her frustration is that she can%u2019t seem to get a law passed tostop this horrible practice. This she says, %u201cis the hardest part forme.%u201d She also wrote a book called Alternatives To Auction AndSlaughter.Sierra was a mare found in a feedlot in Nevada. AmandaSorvino, sister of Mira Sorvino (actor) and daughter of PaulSorvino (actor), contacted the Rescue to see if they could saveher. They made the 1500 mile trip and filmed a documentarycalled \City at The Cutting Room in October 2022. That documentaryfilm exposed the plight of American wild horses and the threatof slaughter. The film highlighted the tragic reality of wildhorses and advocates for their protection. Last year alone, WHRR spent $638,400 on the animals in theircare. Not one person on the team takes a salary, including Kim.Every dollar goes to the animals with food and vet care beingtheir highest expenses. In Gilbert, they have two barns withcommercial misting systems that run 24/7 to keep the horsescooler in the sweltering Phoenix summers. Their water costalone is $1,000 per month in addition to other utilities.They have been blessed with wonderful donors, but they stillneed help. And there are many ways to give; cash or hay donations.
